Miss Texas
Miss Jackie Moore, known by many names over the years, debuted in wrestling in 1988. She had met Skandor Akbar at a local gym in her hometown of Dallas, TX. Jackie was also Akbar’s only female student. As Sweet Georgia Brown, she made her debut in the promotion World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW). Also under the Sweet Georgia Brown moniker, she would travel to Japan in 1990. There she wrestled for Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW). After that tour, Jackie moved onto the United States Wrestling Association (USWA) based in Tennessee. She would also become known as Miss Texas.
Her time in USWA would become one of the most memorable times in her career. As Miss Texas, she had notable feuds with the Dirty White Girl, Lauren Davenport, Miss (Nancy) Simpson (aka Toni Adams), Fantasia, Samantha, Luna Vachon, and Tasha Simone. Jackie competed in many different match types such as a boxing match, mud hole match, tuxedo match, street fight, loser leaves town or gets their head shaved and many others. Miss Texas was also never one to back down from fighting anyone, she had several storied rivalries with men here as well. They included Bert Prentice, Downtown Bruno, and Brandon Baxter. She would also hold the USWA Women’s Championship a record 14 times.
From there, she would have a brief stint in WCW. It was there she would first use the name, Jacqueline. At first, she was the manager of Kevin Sullivan and assisted in his feud with Chris Benoit and Woman. This alliance ended after a miscalculation on Jacqueline’s part, smashing a chair over Sullivan’s head. Next, she would manage Harlem Heat for a brief time after they fired Sister Sherri. At Halloween Havoc 1997 she would face and defeat Disco Inferno in a special Man vs. Woman match. On the November 3, 1997, edition of Monday Nitro, she would receive a shot at Disco’s World Television Championship. She would, however, be unsuccessful in this match.
Jacqueline would join the WWE in 1998. She first aided Marc Mero in his feud with Sable. Jackie would also win the WWE Women’s Championship from Sable, holding it until November of 1998. After this, she would form a stable called Pretty Mean Sisters (PMS) with Terri Runnels and Meat (Shawn Stasiak). They would also add Ryan Shamrock for a short time. Jacqueline would also feud with her old foe Luna Vachon in 1999. 2000 would bring Jacqueline her second and last WWE Women’s Championship reign. It was also in this era Jacqueline would start to engage in intergender competition again. She challenged Dean Malenko for his WWE Light Heavyweight Championship on the June 28, 2000, episode of Sunday Night Heat. On the July 4 episode of SmackDown, she and Ivory would defeat Malenko in a two-on-one handicap match.
After this, she would mainly compete in mixed tag team matches, as well as regular singles with no real specific feuds. In 2002 she would also begin working as a referee and a trainer. This would make Jackie the first regular female referee in the WWE since Rita Marie in the 1980s. She would be instrumental in the training of Taylor Matheny, Bobbi Billard, Nidia, Linda Miles, and Jackie Gayda. In 2004 her last major storyline in WWE took place. She answered Chavo Guerrero’s open challenge for his Cruiserweight Championship. In being able to defeat him, she became the second woman to hold the Cruiserweight Championship and the first in its WWE incarnation. She would lose the belt back to Chavo at Judgment Day 2004. She was released from WWE that year and moved onto TNA Wrestling.
In 2006 she also competed in Mexico for Lucha Libre Femenil. Her first major storyline in TNA would happen in 2007. Being billed Jackie Moore, she joined James Storm as a villainess against his former manager Gail Kim. She would also go on to manage Beer Money (James Storm and Robert Roode) in 2008. Her last appearance for TNA for a while would happen at a house show on June 19, 2009. As Jacqueline, she appeared at a Lucha Libre USA taping in March of 2011. She would return to TNA from June to August of that same year. At all these events, she would team with ODB in some form. Jackie would again return to TNA in 2013 for a couple of One Night Only Knockouts tapings.
Jackie would cement her legacy in WWE by being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016. The festivities took place in and around her hometown of Dallas, TX. She became the first African-American female to be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame. Jackie also returned to WWE in 2018 to compete in the very first Women’s Royal Rumble. In addition to those honors, she was the first woman to be ranked on the PWI 500 list back in 1993. She was ranked at position 249. In addition to wrestling, Jackie is trained in Taekwondo where she is a third-degree black belt. It’s clear that after 30 years of kicking ass, Jackie blazed a trail all her own. Now others may continue to follow in her footsteps.
